Mechanical Engineering Masters
I got my Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech during 2005-2006. I performed research under Dr. Thomas Diller, developing a thin film heat flux gauge that was used by one of my colleagues for his PhD.
ReadLarge Break LOCA Analyst/PM
My first job out of college was with Westinghouse running thermal-hydraulic codes on UNIX to model pressurized water reactors (PWRs) during accident conditions.
ReadNuclear Fuel Designer
In 2010 I moved to Columbia, SC to start work designing mechanical structures for nuclear fuel at Westinghouse's fuel fabrication plant. I was in this role for two years and concentrated on grids and core components.
ReadLean/Six-Sigma
After two years in fuel design, I was given the opportunity to learn about Lean and Six-Sigma techniques from the Westinghouse Customer First Black Belt program.
ReadLicensing Engineer
I began work as a licensing engineer on the VC Summer construction project upon completing my black belt. This was an exciting change because I got to work with the regulator (HQ pictured) and also learn about the AP1000.
ReadDesign Engineering Supervisor
In 2015 I crossed the fence and left Westinghouse, going to work for the utility building Summer 2 and 3 (SCANA). I was in charge of mechanical and civil engineers who supported licensing and owner oversight efforts on the project.
ReadReactor Engineering Supervisor
When the VC Summer project was cancelled in 2017, I went to work for Entergy at their River Bend plant in Louisiana. A new state, a new company, and a new job - it was exciting! My team was responsible all nuclear fuel-related tasks at the plant.
ReadControl Room Supervisor
In 2023 I switched to Operations and went to SRO Certification class. I took the standard Fundamentals and Systems courses, followed by three months of intensive simulator training. I am now a Shift Technical Advisor/Field Supervisor standing watch at River Bend.
